Rocky is from a different Party, but he seems to sound the same. He and the guy from the Constitution Party seemed like they were fairly adjunctive to me.

          Rocky Anderson has never said he would drop out of the Presidential race and take a cabinet appointment. This, unfortunately is a rumor which originated with supporters of the Green Party several months ago. I have nothing against Greens or Jill Stein but I have been very disappointed about the actions of some Green supporters… for example Green in Illinois fought (and succeeded) getting Rocky Anderson’s name removed from the ballot. However, the reason I am not supporting Jill Stein is it is a fact she has never been elected to office. She has not had to balance a budget or make split second decisions for her constituents. I don’t think you go to the White House to learn on the job. Rocky Anderson has a long track record of walking the walk. Please check your facts before you spread the lies.

            Rocky would love to be the POTUS and works his ass off to make it happen. He would never drop out and will continue his work on building the Justice Party in future elections.
            I know Rocky personally. In fact he mentioned me in the debate. I am the man he mentioned that got a presidential pardon for a first time non violent drug offense. He did more than help, he engineered it, and worked tirelessly to do so. This is Rocky’s MO. He never gives up until he makes it happen.

            Thanks Cory! People need to know this man talks the talk that he has walked the walk. Rocky is a long time activist…since his youth.
            He “IS NOT” a life long politican as some have stated. He served 8 years as mayor and declined the 3rd term because he wanted to return to his human rights work.
            Also Rocky served as President of the Utah chapter of ACLU before becoming mayor of SLC
            I have never met anyone who is so dedicated to human rights and restoring the rule of law as Rocky has been.Since 2003 he has been very vocal about the invasion of Iraq and was the only one to testify before Congress in 2007 demanding Bush and Company be held accountable for illegal wars of aggression, torture and war crimes.
            And his passion for the environment, as rated one of the top 20 climate activists in the world, has existed far longer than any New Green Deal offered by the Green Party. Rocky actually has already proven it when mayor of SLC by lower the carbon footprint below the suggested levels.
            I can truly say this man is amazing.

Just hearing the word “Illinois” associated with her campaign, and playing games with the ballot, hating democracy and then talking about it in the debate like she invented it. It’s really too bad. How can you trust someone who hates having other people on the ballot to reverse NDAA or the Patriot Act.. etc. ? She would probably love to have that kind of power if she hates having a democratic election process and removes people from ballots.

            The Green Party for me has been a thorn in an otherwise principled effort… This makes me sad… I used to be a Green (a year or so), then became independent, because it was easeir for voting, then, in our rigged system as it is. I considered going back, but kept putting it off.. During THIS Election…

            I became disappointed in the Greens when one of their people wrote a scathing, untrue report about Rocky Anderson, replete with lies I myself could identify, and so I searched out the situation more: reportedly the person wouldn’t “talk to Rocky Anderson” to straighten it out;

            Then…a site was put up online stating that Rocky Anderson was “unethical” because he participated in the third-party effort, “Americans Elect” which purportedly was “corporate-funded”. However, one of the directors of Americans Elect clearly stated to me, in person, that their funding came from individuals and some were, admittedly “wealthy”, but they were strcitly individual donations. I see nothing “unethical” about Rocky gaining visibility through a fair effort made by Americans Elect.

            I gradually became more interested in Rocky Anderson…and sought out info about the Justice Party.

            THEN I saw stated several times on the Green website that they/their Stein Campaign was the “ONLY” party that “does not take corporate funding”. This is totally untrue. The Justice Party, co-founded by Rocky Anderson, does not take corporate funding; nor do other third parties. I am not sure re the Libertarian Party.

            THEN I read in a circulated Stein-support letter…and on the Green website, their saying that they were the “ONLY” party that stood for Peace. This is preposterously untrue.

            THEN, to top it all off: as I became more politically active, I was instrumental in organizing yet another Third Party debate/FORUM that was to be aired October 17th by LinkTV/ C-span and possibly other media including mainstream (if they dared!) – to be held at a well-known University in California… Everyone was excited about this… and it took me long enough to get the right sponsor for same. All we needed were confirmations from the candidates. A date was finally agreed to… Candidates and/or their Managers were, at the onset, very interested, Rocky Anderson and another – very enthusiastic. However, it all went down starting with Dr. Jill Stein:

            Her Campaign would NOT (emphasized) participate if candidate Roseanne Barr was present. Roseanne Barr is a sharp witty lady appreciated by California–and she is very knowledgeable and insightful about politics. The party who nominated her, the Peace and Freedom Party, is also “very California”–it is mainly a (liberal) California party, an important, historic one, formed during the VietNam War to counter that horrendous war, and to stand strong for Civil Rights at the time and beyond. The party has morphed into being socialistic, but not government-ownership-of-everything type of socialism. It is a viable and very interesting party which has survived all this time. Though I wasn’t sure myself, the University wanted Roseanne Barr and the Peace & Freedom Party represented! Roseanne Barr was invited. (and we don’t “UNinvite”!)

            Jill Stein would not cooperate…

            Then, without naming names, another candidate would not participate if Jill Stein wasn’t there; and Rocky would participate if Jill Stein and/or Gary Johnson, Obama, or Romney were there (the “big two” were invited as well). At the last minute Gary Johnson could not participate, but it could have also been because Stein wouldn’t come….but they/ Johnson DID have a tight schedule & they warned us they might have to send their VP, granted. Anyway, it became a mess and a big headache for everyone.

            If Stein had coooperated, this huge media effort–presidential Forum–would have been realized and the American People could have become even more informed!

            We feel–and it can pretty well be deducted–that if Jill Stein had cooperated, this huge event with massive public audience (we had a big auditorium and even a university ampitheatre on hold for them) would have been made available to the American People. We feel that Jill Stein’s demand was prejudicial and a block to sharing all candidates with the American Public. And it was disrespectful of our efforts.

            The Greens took A LOT of our time and were the most difficult party to work with… The other parties were a breeze compared… (except one didn’t return calls during an important time but finally did–oh well, that happens). As for Dr. Jill Stein:

            Others got involved and pleaded with Dr. Stein in person, even, to participate; but she would not budge!! A professor friend who organized something for her said Stein also was “difficult” in this regard, so a planned debate was whittled down to a 20-min. speech by Jill Stein alone at a community college.

            Yes, and there was Illinois, a Green trying to get Rocky off the ballot… and succeeded. The Greens claimed “ignorance” about that…who knows?

            Unfortunately I simply don’t trust them or Dr. Jill Stein any longer, even though her platform looks very good. I do like their spirit in getting arrested and all that…but was that only a ploy to get media attention? Even if it was, I think it was great…

            I believe Rocky Anderson has the experience to implement very similar ideas as the Greens’ ideas–and he has already made such ideas come to life, i.e., happen for real! Check out what he’s done – as well as what he’ll do: http://www.voteROCKY.org http://www.JusticePartyUSA.org

            P.S.: I also think Virgil Goode and the Constitution Party are very interesting; and Gary Johnson, a bit too “Republicanish” but with liberal sparks, interesting too.

            I am always worried when a person who was just a member of a mainstream party and can’t get nominated runs off and joins or forms another party. If elected, it’s like clockwork . . .they run back to their former party and efforts to build third party momentum in this nation come to a screeching halt once again.

            Thanks for your information. Just from watching youtube and prior to reading your post above I thought that Rocky A, appealed most to me, because of his position and his excellent delivery of his ideas much of which, as you say, parallel the Green Party.
            As for the choice of the Constitutional Amendment, I really would like both Rocky A’s Equal Rights as well as the Citizens United crap to be fixed.
            Perhaps both belong to Equal Rights – because C. United makes individual citizens voting voice far less than equal.

            I don’t see anything unethical about individuals making large contributions to the effort (unless it was dirty money!). The contributiions were not made to individual candidates. However, I think transparency would have possibly been better. On the other hand, if the candidates knew who gave money, there might have been a few candidates cozying up to the donors somehow… I don’t fault Rocky Anderson for participating – at least HE was transparent about it, and transparent about the lack of transparency!

            Hey, I am FROM Utah as well… and I loved Rocky as my mayor and still do.

            Anyways, I loved Rocky and Gary (and I liked listening to Virgil for his honesty!). I have my disagreements with both… Rocky, like the Green Party, isn’t quite ready to face realities of the budget. Gary is great, but not quite on par with my feelings about the environment, regulation, and the need to support equity and social mobility to preserve democracy.

            I’m glad to see all four debate. I was even more glad to see them take on some real questions!

            I really wanted to like Jill. I’m really close to her view point on a lot of issues, I want a female president, and she looks like my mom… that said, I don’t quite think it’s the presidents job to solve the issues they care about through subsidization. Yes, we do need to tackle education, healthcare, and the environment! Yes they can be investments that pay themselves off! But we need to be very cautious about handing out tax payer money to R&D purposes or education. It’s not the governments job to pick the winners by funding R&D and then handing over the products to corporations so they can patent them and make profits. Nor should the government be throwing money at “for profit” universities that purposely fail their students like Phoenix of Arizona.

            I’m not really aware of the Green-Justice Party dynamic, and can’t comment on that. I will comment on your concerns regarding Dr. Stein, though.

            With great respect, though I don’t support Dr. Stein (I favour Mr. Johnson), she was a practising physician for years. Want to talk about making split-second, high-stakes decisions impacting people’s lives with no chance for a re-do and limited information? As a physician myself, I can vouch for the fact that working in a clinical role (as she has done) is excellent preparation for crisis-management and level-headed decision-making. I think she’s pretty strong on that point! As far as never being elected before, I think that’s irrelevant in her context. She built a successful career as an educated professional and teacher of Medicine. It’s not like she was sitting on her butt for a few decades. She was busy doing a real job in the real world, not showboating around promoting herself. I’m okay with her on both counts, though she won’t have my vote. Let’s get some real working professionals into government instead of a bunch of teleprompter-fed sock puppets!

          Whether the rumor is true or not, the fact is Jill Stein is on the ballot in 48 states. As I’ve watched the two of them debate during the R.D. Har Har show I’ve thought that they could work well together; if she could win I would definitely want to see him in her administration.

          As to balancing a budget, she’s been a working mom for decades, I’m sure she has the base principles.

          Not been in office? That’s one of the best reasons to vote FOR her! The last thing this country needs is another professional politician… Besides, there’s been enough dicks in the White House already…

          Rocky is on the ballot in many states and is an approved Write-In candidate in many others for a total, as of last night, of 35 states and he’s still in the filing process for Write-In status in a few more. Rocky Anderson has never said what you claim he said. He’s in the race until the end and would not accept a cabinet position, under the corporate administrations, if it were offered to him.

            We have a system of checks and balances. It is so unbalanced in the other direction that we need a movement like the Libertarian Platform to get the house back in order.             Rocky has been a mayor. Gary Johnson has been a governor. Virgil has been a representative and a legislator. That does not make them career politicians. Rocky has worked long and hard on human rights in his capacity as an attorney. He, like most of us, wants to see the country on an entirely different track. That does not make him a career politician. I admire these four for bucking the tide, in Rocky’s case at least, on a shoestring budget. We need to see a strong progressive field. For those with that frame of mind I suggest you vote Rocky. Through the GP Jill has enough exposure to rank in the first two.

If it was legal, the demand wouldn’t need to be filled by drug cartels bringing it into the country and instituting a ring of crime in the process, for one thing. She is saying in and of itself, the drug isn’t dangerous enough to warrant it being illegal and there would be many fewer problems in relation if it was or at least it would be easier to monitor, tax, etc..

          I think the real issue is not having the skills for the jobs right now. Not all of these job losses are service type jobs, many of these working visas are for research, medicine, and corporate. It’s not the immigrants fault that they are qualified to fulfill these positions. I am no convinced we should be blocking them from entering our country while we wait for our folks to gain the skills, this would further impede growth and development

            that is a case in point; i would guess many roofing companies would say “i can’t afford to pay what the legal worker is demanding”. cracking down on illegal roofers would either lead to more expensive roofs or a better use of technology to lower cost with respect ot labor input.

            allowing low wage workers to flood the country, as gary johnson would do, is a race to the bottom: the tendency to retain low wage, bad jobs that should be replaced with current technology. in a global, free trade scenario, the time of all boats being lifted is put off for many years.

            as a nation, we can make the choice, as we did in the 1940s, to replace low-tech, low wage jobs with higher tech, higher value added jobs (esp. manufacturing) and make as many arguably bad jobs go away.

            the issue is, can we employ everyone else? if so what in?

            research seems to be the logical place to employ as many people as possible. some will likely say, how can afford tis?

            if we look at the very large part of the labor force in Finance, Insurance and Real Estate, who are adding no value, simply moving money about in the closed loop gary mentioned, we can easly imagine all these people, and more, in medical, tech, and whatever you can think of research.

          He is obviously referring to Mexican citizens. This debate is always about them whether that is specifically stated or not. The truth is that citizens of the US will not work for $8.00 per hour. Not in the welfare state. There is a disease of entitlement that prevents people from working. Why work when you can watch TV in your section 8 apartment while eating potato chips purchased with food stamps? Where is the incentive of the individual to work? Who knows, maybe even learn a skill and start your own business. The construction industry would come to a halt if we “shipped illegals home”. This is their home now. We should at least pretend to care about them. We should at least document them and remove the threat of deportation. The worst thing we could ever do in the future is grant them amnesty so that they can join our fellow countrymen in the food stamp line. Hunger is a great motivator to work. If you don’t work, you don’t eat.

Everywhere I went I heard people praising Rocky Anderson as one of their best mayors. Oh, and your assertions of Rocky patronizing his biggest donors falls on deaf ears. He is one of the few presidential candidates that limited campaign contributions to $100 per person ($2400 for ballot access) and took not a dime from corporations. You cannot buy Rocky Anderson!

      I noted that about Stein myself. Though she’s courageous no doubt in her attempt to crash the debates ( and getting arrested for it) I did notice that there where times where she was just throwing out euphamisms and sentimentality. Actually she seemed a bit non descript about some things like any amendment she’d like to make (which amounted to restricting Corporate involvement in politics, essentially along a similar vein as Goode’s policies on PACs).

      Rocky had policies that where practically indistinct from Jill’s (if more concise). I really think that next time around Justice should merge with the Greens, because those two seemed almost like conjoined twins.

      Goode indeed seems like a republican, though a very old fashioned sort. I would expect to see someone like him running during the 20s.

      SO far, Johnson is the only one I see who really has the ferocity and the drive (and the votes) to get us out of this mess we’re in. Yes, Rocky and Jill make good points about an educated society (although academia is quite overrated, and Johnson was right that not only does it raise the expectations of employers, but it also is close to impossible in the short term at least, since we are so far in debt right now it will take a few decades perhaps until the mess is cleaned.

        This is the biggest reason I like having term limits. They stay in office so long they think they can do whatever they want. They don’t care about the people anymore. Did we want this debt?       Think she more than implied that she would wack at the defense budget and push green energy so that at some point we don’t need to fight oil wars. She would have to raise taxes but we would be getting something tangible for our money and at the same time not be out of pocket for college education. This sort of investment in the country would raise our real standard of living and better tap the brain power of our youth.

      In my mind, Gary is too willing to let the chips fall (dropouts, prisoners, etc.) where they may on an individual basis instead of taking an inclusive community approach such as Jill’s. I think that Gary puts more trust in capitalism than in democracy – guess that I’m the opposite. I think that his privatizations of public functions schools/prisons merely trade gov’t control for non-democratic corporate control.

          If he legalizes cannabis, that would cut down a lot of the need for the prisons.On health care, if they aren’t going to do it for everyone in the country they need to get rid of it. Why should 310 million be paying for the health care for only 20 million. Gary wants to do away with the IRS but he is going to tax us another way. I forget how much he said but it’s a good amount and if added to sales tax, we already pay 9.125% in Tennessee. Some states are higher.           If we had Medicare 4 All we wouldn’t have to worry about the vets getting proper healthcare. Our current healthcare system costs us between 31 – 33 % where Medicare 4 All would costs approximately 3.5 – 5%……just think of what we could do with the money we would save . Maybe provide better education.
          If we would provide educations the recipients could be required to give back 2 years in a Peace Corp type effort but here in the states. There are solutions to the problems just need to get the corporations out of the pictures.
          Rocky has been calling for accountability for years. He was the only one who testified in front of Congress demanding Bush and Co be held accountable for illegal wars of aggression, war crimes and torture. He stated very clearly of returning to the rule of law.

            I agree not only would the single-payer health care system help vets but if set up correctly we would decrease the need for pharmaceutical drugs because our health care preventative check up from childhood into golden years would keep us in line with our health.         You raise some valid points, and while I praise Jill for her progressive ideas, I don’t think it’s fair to increase taxes to implement “free” higher education. Not everyone paying the extra tax will want to get a higher education. It would be unfair to charge the public this tax when our society partially relies on people to hold jobs that don’t require degrees. We don’t need to pay a tax to fund hundreds of thousands of over-qualified waiters, road workers, clerks, etc.

        Rhett, I agree that she was pretty clear about it. I think she has mentioned a 30% cut in defense spending with an increase in taxes. I think she has started on the right track, but I tend to agree more with Johnson.

        Johnson does take a more free market approach but he is more of a spending hawk than Stein so this drives a lot of what he does. Privatization of schools (some prisons already are) allow competition if done correctly.

        The issue of school loans is one that is missed on Stein. Government backed school loans allow schools to continually raise tuition without any fear of pricing themselves out of the market. Right now, there is a real risk of these loans coming to default in a housing market type meltdown. There are a lot of people out there making the argument that many of the degrees being offered from schools are not worth the price. STEM related degrees tend to pay-off, but all the others are a waste of money at current tuition levels. I would argue for the backing of loans for STEM related degrees only.

          Privatization of prisons is (and was) a HORRIBLE idea. It’s just one reason that the war on drugs continues. The goal of any business is GROWTH. Why on earth would we want our prisons to grow? You did hear the statistics given by the candidates regarding how the US holds the highest percentage of individuals in prison compared to the rest of the world? Privatizing prisons, wars and health care is really a bad idea. These industries all profit off of the world’s misery.

          And Jill did not ‘miss’ the issue of school loans. She surpassed it.

          I think it’s important to note that Dr. Stein doesn’t intend to raise taxes on the middle class so much as on the upper classes who have been benefitting from cuts and handouts for a long time. Also, there’s money to be retrieved from government subsidies of corporate agriculture (Monsanto), and the oil industry, and other industries and corporations who have een benefitting from tax cuts and handouts (even while outsourcing to China), etc. In fact, there’s a LOT of money in there.

        I would not be in favor of government subsidizing college educations. From the viewpoint of improving the economy, investing in free college educations has a very poor return. Having gone to college, dropped out before getting my degree, and then completed a technical school instead, I can say with confidence that about 80% of what you learn in college is not applicable to your career. I was much better prepared for my profession after leaving tech school than I would have been if I continued with college and relied solely on my degree.

        If government did subsidize continued education for the sake of improving the economy, the money would be much better spent on technical/vocational training. The cost is less, the time for completion is less, and the applicable knowlege gained is more than a college education.

        As a final comment, I would like to thank all the people that put together this debate for letting differing viewpoints have a voice in front of the American people, or at least those of them concerned enough of to tune in.

        Not so fast. Just how can everyone get ‘better jobs?’ The fact is that we only need a certain percentage of the population in management, and a certain percentage in research. Trash needs to be collected, manual labor needs to be done, and we can’t all manage and supervise. Janitors with PhDs are not more productive than janitors without PhDs, nor do they produce more tax revenue.

            I think everybody should have a choice in what they study but they need to be prepared for the responsibility that comes with the debt and the CONSEQUENCES of what they decide to do. These loans are a scam for the most part and the taxpayer is on the hook for bad decisions.

            No, if you take government funds out of higher education (the true “Yay, Liberty” position), then the government is not picking winners and losers for individuals in their career choices. I think privately-funded scholarships are the merit-based way to see that smart kids of lesser financial means get a good education. And the lack of government-subsidized loans will halt the skyrocketing tuition cost increases.       You’ll need to look up the NEED Act and know a bit about monetary reform and debt deflation. You can google the NEED Act. Debt deflation is the fact that with the 2008 crisis, the private sector is paying off and defaulting on debt. It’s rising no matter who says balanced budget. With jobs (Stein’s Green New Deal) people would have jobs and money to spend. Putting people back to work, stemming the foreclosure tide, erasing the shadow inventory through principal reductions and workouts, raising taxes on the .01% and reducing military spending.       Hi Josh, what I heard her say was that the New Green Deal would pay for itself by creating 25 million jobs and thus reducing our payments of unemployment tax and eventually our ability to stop waging costly wars in search of oil . . . and the past history of public education going all the way through college has been shown to pay for itself 6 times over in economic activity…including the tax dollars generated by it to pay for itself.       I’m a Green, and I’d also like to hear how she’d pay for it- while I agree that higher education is a good thing to invest in, I do also believe that a University that is guaranteed enrollment no matter the price charged will raise prices as high as it likes. Our higher ed. system has become an industrial complex, and feeding it with money no-strings-attached is just as much crony capitalism as are the other types of corporate welfare that we Greens should be against. I think Jill would benefit from a position that supports higher ed, but also addresses the reasons for rising costs and doesn’t give us a bubble of Philosophy majors when we need engineers.

      If you want the market approach, refer to the Keynesian model. It worked in the 1940s, and it works in business as well.

      One way to expand a business is to borrow money, expand, then pay back the loan. In the process money is created and destroyed. This is how the banking business works.

      In 1940s defense spending, a large amount of money was created, plant and equipment was created to make planes, ships, tanks etc., which was then used to make cars, fridges etc. after the war.

      The principal is the same: create money and use it to expand the economy. As the economy expands, the apparent debt shrinks relatively, and if the people wish, can be paid off.

      It has become obvious (to many) that a capitalist system cannot function well without a spender of last resort. The austerity in Europe once again proves this. Capitalists, left to their own devices, through no fault of their own, will inevitably destroy themselves (and us along with them). One can’t blame them anymore than you can blame a carnivore that eats a cute baby herbivore.

      It is up to the people to address the shortfall of the private sector: it’s cyclicity. When the private sector constracts we need a job program to employ the slack.

      We have a printing press. We can’t be Ireland or Greece. As long as we expand the level of goods and services alongside the money supply (as we did in the 1940s and into the 1950s) we won’t have significant inflation.

In other words, if everyone knew about them, they would have an equal chance to win the election as Romney or Obama. The other parties were not listed on the ballots of enough states to win, and so were not invited.

          Free markets are voluntary and therefore mutually beneficial exchanges. Power is given by consumers and can be withdrawn by them at any time. Government is power by force. Power corrupts. Is it any surprise that Big Government is easily corrupted by Big Business? Privatization actually introduces CHOICE if done properly. The primary role of government should be to protect people and their property from each other, not from themselves. That is to provide justice as it relates to aggression, theft, fraud, and yes pollution (based on property rights).

        If I had to vote for a socialist I would definitely vote for her, since her goals are noble. The thing though is that there is nothing left to redistribute.
        Plus, the Green revolution is taking off on it’s own New Deal or no, there are many companies that are sprouting up selling things like little vawts and stuff.

        I am sure there will also be an increasing interest in hydrogen (created with the aid of wind or solar). A hydrogen economy is very close to picking up on it’s own.

    Gary Johnson and Virgil Goode are my run-off picks. GJ was, in my opinion, the standout leader of the night. I was disappointed in at least 1/3 of Rocky’s advocacy. Ms. Jill Stein, while I applaud her passion, I flat out disagree with her “bail-outs for millions instead of bail-outs for millionaires” pitch. Bail-outs are wrong. Simply changing the beneficiaries doesn’t make it right.

    Rocky Anderson was very eloquent and scholarly, and I believe Rocky would be an excellent President. I do, however, applaud Jill Stein for getting arrested in protest of the exclusion of third party candidates from Presidential debates. This is another act of civil disobedience, and that takes guts. I also liked her answer to the question concerning which one amendment she thought was most critical: getting money out of politics. But all four candidates were far superior to Obama and Romney, who are merely corporate shrills. Thank you all for an honest, authentic, unscripted discussion. Your love of country and patriotism tonight was indeed inspiring.

        Agreed. Goode was not better than Obama and Romney. Stein and Johnson were. Rocky was good in the debate, but I disagree with him on many issues and can’t handle that thick of an ideology.

    Well I’m indecisive again after seeing this debate. At first I was just going to break down and vote Obama because I can’t stand Romney, but because of things like NDAA and the Patriot Act, I cannot in good conscience do that. I’ve been a Ron Paul supporter for quite some time so I thought I’d vote Johnson instead, but now that I’ve seen Rocky Anderson’s poise and intelligence, I am leaning towards him. And people, this indecisiveness I feel is a GOOD thing – just like the free market, it means more choices which in turn means higher quality candidates!

    Gary Johnson’s economic ideas are absolutely nuts, but he was by far the most enthusiastic.
    One only needs to look at Pinochet’s Chile or Argentina’s Reorganization Process or Columbia or Yeltsin’s Russia or even to lesser extent Reagans America and Thatchers England to see where wide spread right wing Austerity measures puts a country, and Regressive Tax policy? Really?

    Jill Stein came off as a weak speaker, Anderson upstaged her, but I agree entirely with both of their positions.

      If a balanced budget is nuts, then I’m right there with him. His tax plan is the Fair Tax, which is not regressive. The plan addresses that issue with ‘pre-bates.’ The details are available at his site. The point is to eliminate the incentives that we see today with regard to the PY and corporate tax models.

      Rocky is great, my number 1 choice! I started following him on facebook a few months back! I donated to his campaign and I got a call from a volunteer asking if I had watched him debate on democracy now and asked what I liked or didn’t like and what I would like to see more of. He does the same thing on facebook, he reads comments and answers questions. He seems to be in touch with the needs of others and I think he would make an amazing president. I wish he were on the ballot in every state.

    Johnson started off poorly in the pre-debate with his absurd response to the ‘commons’ question. Libertarianism (at least as I define it) pretty much rejects the idea of the ‘commons’, but how he could have been unfamiliar with the concept is beyond me. His positions are kind of weak by my standards (austro-libertarian/an-cap) and I’m hardly enthusiastic about him, but he did finish fairly strong. Seeing him and Stein in a second debate would be interesting, though I’d rather the debate be centered on those issues upon which they passionately disagree.

    As far as Stein’s points on education, the G.I. bill worked because the
    veterans of WWII were given an opportunity that they did not expect and
    they were also highly motivated to improve their lives. At this point I
    think that just handing a college education to U.S. high school
    graduates will only increase the amount of keg parties. Our public
    education curriculum should be designed to educate people to have
    careers in their states, bringing the “local movement” to education and
    have a more skilled trade based secondary school program. Anderson was
    solid about the Equal Rights Amendment. I liked that Goode wanted to
    face immigration. I disagree with Johnson that schools and prison
    should be privatized but I think that Gary Johnson won that discussion.
    It was not a debate, King repeatedly asked for rebuttals, but there was
    a lot of agreement.

    I like Gary and Jill. I see both of their points on education. Gary looks to the balance sheet, while Jill looks at the big picture. Both are valid views. If we cut back and massively reduced the role of our military, removed the DEA, ATF, CIA, NSA, DHS, TSA, and 100+ unconstitutional alphabet soup organizations, and got rid of the Federal Reserve with the installation of a sound monetary system…Paying for education and even healthcare shouldn’t be a problem either in terms of cost or invasiveness of govt.

    Unfortunately, they are promoting IRV. You may have to be a mathematician or election method nerd to note that IRV, of all alternative election methods, would be particularly useful to ruling parties to solve their “spoiler” problem, while ensuring they keep their lock on politics.

    Better to use checkboxes (approval voting) or scores (range voting), if you promote an alternative voting system to the ones that shut out third parties.

    I would like to see Gary Johnson and Rocky Anderson. I think Jill Stein has some good ideas, but I think she failed to communicate what it would take to accomplish those ideas, and thus failed to persuade me to have any further interest in her as a presidential candidate. Virgil Goode did a terrible job at debating his ideas. He basically said, “I know you aren’t going to like this, but…” and failed to explain to voters why his policies would be better than other policies. I think Rocky Anderson also had a somewhat sub-par debate by failing to distinguish himself, although some of his ideas might be pretty good; I just don’t know that much about him and would be interested in learning more. And of course, Gary Johnson had a very bold style in debating that was noticeable since his opening statements. It allowed him to stand out in the debate in that regard, but also in his explanations of his policies and his ability to speak fluently and clearly also helped him out as well.

    This was such a refreshing debate! I loved all of the candidates for participating. It really helped me narrow down my favorites: Johnson, Anderson, Stein and then Goode.

    Can you *please* include questions about our energy policies and climate change in the next debate? I want to know what priority the candidates would make renewable energy and how they would make it happen. I want to end our dependence on fossil fuels and nuclear energy and want to hear how they will do that.

You first have to balance the budget, and get things back under control, before you can even BEGIN thinking about handing out money for welfare causes.       I think that they mean re-direction of funds, not increased taxation. Redirect bloated military spending to education, which would result in more jobs and less need for welfare like food stamps and cash assistance. I completely agree with that idea (at least for AA/AS/AAS degrees, not really anything higher for “free”). The problem is that, while it does redirected bloated military spending and will reduce spending in the long term, it doesn’t reduce spending in the short term, which needs to happen. I’d like to hear ideas for short term reductions that wouldn’t mean more people would be picking between food and electricity when their jobs aren’t enough.

    Three of the candidates (Stein, Anderson and Goode) used the term “democracy” to describe our system of government. Two of the three said it numerous times. The ONE exception was Gary Johnson. Thank you, Gary! My choice has always been Ron Paul. But since my state doesn’t recognize write-in votes, I’m voting for Gary Johnson. By the way, this is a republic (rule by law to protect each individual), NOT a democracy (rule by men or the tyranny of the majority). However, increasingly over the last several decades, democracy has been the battle cry here and abroad (no wonder conquered people around the globe “hate” us). The best definition of democracy: Two wolves and a lamb deciding what’s for dinner. GO GARY!

There was nothing forced about watching this exchange at all and I am made deeply hopeful just through the fact that these voices will, hopefully for the foreseeable future have a home from which to air there thoughts on policy and implementation.

I tuned in late I would have asked about the millions of plastic coffins and the Fema camps with thousands of UN OR NATO troops everywhere in the country.     My favorite part of the debate was when Virgil about the drug war and he was not afraid to admit that his view completely differed from everyone else on stage. He doesn’t have my vote Johnson all the way but I’m tired of the hearing a debate between the establishment candidates and having them dodge a question you know they disagree with simply to get votes.

    Jill Stein won this debate handily. She far, far more well versed on the issues than all others, but Rocky Andersen did well too. Gary Johnson was weak on his understanding of the economy and Virgil Goode was an embarrassment. Roseann Barr would have been a much better choice than Goode.

    In terms of how the mass media likes to pick a debate winner, I’d have to say that Rocky Anderson “won” the debate by a small margin, with Johnson coming close behind or drawing, arguably. This is simply in terms of who made the most bombastic points and had an air about them that they were agressive or “winning.”

    On the other hand, I think the debate clarified for me that I believe most in what Jill Stein was saying. Rocky’s great, in my opinion, too, but Jill really hit the sweet spots for me. Time to do a little research on the differences in their platforms.

    While Virgil Goode was by and far the least popular one there and in the comments here, you at least have to respect that he stands by his principles and has a few seriously good points that are outside the “duopoly” box. It doesn’t seem like he has a comprehensive plan for every topic, but his heart is possibly in the right place.

We had thought-provoking conversation and there were clear points that we disagreed upon, but we were just glad that the points made were clear enough TO be debated! Especially by Gary Johnson: that’s a man who actually knows his statistics. And this coming from someone who used to despise the “hands off government” approach!

    I think Goode and Johnson were the two I prefer. They have differences on drugs and other issues but were overall the most consistent. They all were much better than the 2 idiots now competing for office. Think Jill is in socialist fantasy land with her health care and free education ideas as socialism is part of the problem now. The point she is missing is that the working people are the ones that would end up footing the bill. It is the same type socialist programs that are straining our budgets already. As one candidate said about medicare…30 cent going in and a dollar going out. That is the problem with socialism. Our biggest problems with health care and education is the ridiculous price gouging that is going on. That needs to be addressed first and foremost. Our current economic problems are not being caused by lack of higher education but rather a lack of common sense. Free health care is not a guaranteed right. Think that Goode has missed the point on the case for legalization. It is not so much that any of the candidates are for drugs but rather that the laws are destroying our civil liberties and creating a police state and the profit. I am also very spooked of the green party type agenda. I agree we need to conserve and come up with solutions but some of their climate scenarios and forced ideas they seek power for are out there and almost seem like an appeal for a green type dictatorship that forces compliance. I also have a problem with elevation a gay marriage to the same status as a man/woman marriage. It is one thing to say that the bedroom and private life is not the governments business however it is quite another to want the government to come in and sanctify it and place its blessings on it. That is why I favor Goode and Johnson.

    If you really want to see a debate between candidates that have any type of shot Virgil Goode has to be one mainly because he is the only candidate that is going to be on the ballot in at least 48 states and probably all fifty states. If a candidate is only on the ballot for two or three states or even 10 or 20 of the states they are not serioous about running for president so lets find out how many states will have each candidate on there ballots and let the two candiadtes that are on the most ballots debate in Washington DC.

    Seems to me if you are holding a second debate with people that have been disenfranchised from the main stream political system you should have included all four in both debates. You had me excited about a second debate before I realized it would not include all the candidates. I wish you would reconsider. If the candidates believe they should have been included in the other debates then in good conscience they should not participate unless they are all invited.

    I really enjoyed listening to all four of these candidates and all had some valid points. I found myself most comfortable with Rocky Anderson and Jill Stein but Gary Johnson made his positions in a powerful way and Virgil seemed to be a good steward of the Constitution.

    On the education issue, i was disappointed not to see any of the candidates, Stein or Anderson in particular due to their progressive views, raise the point that while educational debt is at the $1 trillion mark, the total cost of education from pre-k to graduate level is only an estimated $15-$30 billion. Which is less than the collections overhead on educational debt! For less than Harvard’s endowment of $34.6 billion, we could have free education for all!

    Moreover, I did not see the staggering figure for the Wall St bailout, $20 trillion, mentioned by any of the candidates. Good to see the $1 trillion annual pentagon budget and $4-5 trillion figure for ‘war on terror’ listed. Stein failed to mention a most pressing concern, that of distressed mortgages, and her plan for ending foreclosure/eviction with interest free, initial property value/total paid on mortgage/current property value calculated loans to occupiers, with income adjusted loan payments or renters agreements.

    As far as the energy debate, neither Stein nor Anderson seized the initiative in pointing out the primary sources of domestic petroleum use (Mexico, Canada, Venezuela, Nigeria) in order to undermine the ‘war for oil’ snowjob in the middle east/asia as infrastructure rent seeking and mercenary boondoggles for geostrategic control. which make Americans unsafe at home and slaughter millions abroad, and create traumatized, wounded, vets and military families. Solar, wind, geothermal and hydroelectric power are more sensible for HVAC and electricity. The southwest is a desert and the plains are windy. Geothermal is better than hydrofracking, tar sands take more resources to extract than the possible energy yield, and mountaintop removal is destructive and poisonous. Nuclear is not a safe waste/meltdown option and destroys freshwater ecosystems.

    On the ‘amendment’ question, the UN Declaration of Human Rights, which the US is a principal author and signatory, should be made a constitutional amendment. The fact that we are not in compliance with a ratified international/constitutionally binding treaty is the scandal from which the sufferings, especially of the last 40 yrs, spring. Non-profit enterprise is the future, and should be the basis of America’s investment policy for economic progress.

    I voted for the Green Party because it met the principles i believe in. For too long the one party with two names has offered a choice of voting for the lesser of two evils. Voting for principles, even when the chances of winning is remote, is where the power of change resides.     I was not very impressed, in fact I was let down. There was almost no philosophical discussion, no clear distinctions made between the parties and what there parties stand for. While it was nice they brought up issues like the NDAA, they almost all agreed on most of the matters.
    They should all get together before hand and make a list of things they agree with and that they disagree with Obama and Mitt about. They can start off by reading that off and then get into what they fundamentally and philosophically disagree on.
    I would like to see longer speaking segments, I look forward to the head to head.

    i like what jill stein and rocky anderson have to say about the important issues facing us, but i have to say-they can’t deliver on their ‘promises’ any better than obomba has. the office of president is not one of dictatorship. congress/corporations and banks has much to do or more with the problems facing us as the president. the president has one true power-to start and stop war. period. foreign policy is not dictated by the president and certainly not domestic policy, either. he may influence but not dictate. how do we hold any candidate to their promises?

    Loved watching this debate. The debates between Obama and Romney, on the other hand, have been the epitome of style over substance and do NOTHING whatsoever to change our trajectory toward national economic and civil collapse other than to SLIGHTLY alter the rate by which we get there. The “third party” candidates, whether you agree with them or not, are not the bought and paid for banana republic puppets that the dual dictatorship is offering us. I will be writing in the Johnson/Gray ticket here in Michigan, thanks to the GOP’s team of attorneys keeping them off the ballot.
    As an aside to the Free & Equal organization, great job last night! Thank you all you did to set this up and persuade Mr. King to set aside his Democrat leanings and serve as moderator. Also, I found it difficult to bring up this page on my mobile device; you might want to look into that.

    Awesome debate! It’s the issues that third parties raise that are important. I will be showing the debate to my high school U.S. Government students today and tomorrow.

    I love the idea of a second debate to discuss more issues–but the 3rd parties are not about narrowing down the choice among the candidates, it’s about raising the issues and perspectives that have been ignored by the major parties. Limiting next week’s debate to the ‘top two’ is a bad idea–you are doing the same thing the Dems and Reps do!

    Last night’s Chicago audience was really getting into the debate, but I noticed lots of empty seats. I know that ‘Free and Equal’ needs the money, but how about filling up the Hilton seats by not charging admission?

Just for the record I want Jill Stein at #1. I don’t want to just hit the Done button with a choice that is not my own.     I am highly biased because I am a Libertarian (actually, I want less state control than that, but that would make me the A word! *GASP*) but I would vote for any of these candidates over Rombama.
    I know that the differences among us would be vast – e.g. student loans. I understand how a person would arrive at Jill’s position. If we are going to bail out a private market participant, why not let it be the little guy instead of the banks; I would just rather not bail anyone out, not out of meanness or lack of caring but because I don’t think it works.
    Rocky ranted in his opening statement about how bad the state of affairs is, using actual evidence for a change, and while I agree with his diagnosis of the symptoms, he touched on areas that have been government controlled since the dawn of the progressive era. Hell, our government hasn’t even been able to do basic things like abide by the Constitution or hold free and equal elections! We’re going to trust them with MORE authority?
    Anyway, my views aside, I hope all of you grassroots, individual and independent thinkers can find a way to band together on your common ground (civil liberties, actually having elections, etc) for the sake of all of us.

    What a refreshing experience to hear these four candidates. I favor Jill Stein because she
    links global warming issues and job creation in a concrete way. I am not sure the other candidates spoke of initiatives that specific. Also she doesn’t propose to slash government to the point of having to deal with the consequences of how that would play out economically – what would be the ripple effect of a balanced budget? I did not hear specifics from the others about that. I think the deficit is a threat, but other issues are even a bigger threat. I support her approach the most, but appreciate and respect all of the candidates. I was going to vote Democrat but I cannot cast my vote now for a system that is so damaged.

    Voting for democrats, especially progressive one’s, will help this country for the time being but we need to change some of the rules in the political games being played in Washington

I am very much with Gary Johnson but I wanted to hear more about green energy. Im not a total supporter of Johnson’s platform but, from what I know so far, he is the closest to my ideas of what is and what should be. Based on the conduct of the debate and the performance of the candidates, I think we still have a long way to go before mainstream America can begin to take the idea of a third party candidate seriously.

    I was disappointed in the discussion regarding what amendment to the Constitution would you propose. Yes, let us propose an amendment to a document that is for all practical purposes ignored. What was needed is a discussion about how to restore constitutional government.
    The discussion regarding the Patriot Act and the NDAA were on point in this regard. No one even mentioned the Federal Counterfeitng Agency except in reference to “printing” money.

    “I’ve smoked marijuana and drunk alcohol. I can tell you that alcohol is much more dangerous,”

    I wish someone would have addressed the “Free” education Jill was speaking to. Nothing is free. Free means someone, somewhere, provided it for you at a cost to them that you’re not aware of. I’m reminded of the following whenever I hear a politician mention the word “free.”

    Christina Tobin ate up a lot of time at the beginning. What is up with her giggles and laughter? Couldn’t she be a bit serious? Plenty of time was spent on marijuana, drugs etc. The debate did not direct explicit questions on key issues like economy, jobs, trade. Although I must say, I am pleased that finally there is a forum where other candidates are given an opportunity to present themselves and their solutions. I hope there is a marked improvement in the next debate. I am looking forward to it!

    I don’t understand why people would pick Stein and Anderson to face off against each other. That’s like pointing two mirrors at each other and comparing the reflections. They agree with each on about 90% of the issues. Setting aside the areas where I agree and disagree with their stances, it just wouldn’t be a very interesting debate to watch them pat each other on the back for an hour and a half… Just my opinion…

    Gary Johnson was the only of the four candidates to fully recognize that the US government is broke. The most pressing action required of the US government is to stop running up new debt and creating new money. What any credible Presidential candidate needs to talk about is where they are going to cut spending. Johnson hit some of the most urgent items to cut. 1. Foreign wars, military and foreign aid. 2. The insane “War on Drugs” or a more accurate name would be the “War on Human Freedom.” 3. Federal spending on education and guarantees on college loans. All of the four candidates labelled the NDAA as violation of Constitutional and universal human rights and act of tyranny. Yet all of the candidates, except Gary Johnson, proposed US government (at the Federal level) to spend on their pet items that are not authorized by the Constitution. This type hypocrisy by politicians is precisely the cause of the “bill of rights” being declared obsolete. Either the Constitution means what its language says or it does not. Gary Johnson was the only one of the four to recognize that the growth of government is the ultimate threat to our liberty. Only a very small government can be forced to get its hand out of your under ware and your wallet.

    Taking the Free & Equal debate down to the top two takes away from their credibility for me. The whole concept was that all qualified top tier independents would have a chance to be heard. This is too close to the debate commission taking it down to their top two — the Democrats and the Republicans.

    I don’t think he realizes it, and I may be out in left field here, but I suspect that Rocky has been endorsed in order to take sheer votes from Gary Johnson. They both express a lot of similar opinions, and where they differ, Rocky tends to be more liberal (such as being in favor of free education where Gary was in favor of doing away with federal grants, and being in favor of completely doing away with drug prohibition, where gary is specifically in favor of marijuana decriminalization). And although it may sound silly, even the way they look is quite similar, and that will play into people’s subconscious.
    Even though Gary is a conservative, it’s going to be mostly liberals that vote for a third party candidate, which is a big part of why I think Rocky, being slightly more liberal than Gary, is there to steal Johnson’s votes. Again, I don’t think he even realizes that’s why he’s being endorsed. He seems genuine in his views. It was just little things that inclined me toward this opinion, like the way he throws in threw in those personal story anecdotes about the drug war. It’s remeniscent of the tactics of the highly-funded demoblican candidates, like he had been coached similarly, but with a lower budget.
    Johnson, on the other hand, seems to have coached himself. He still tries some psychological techniques, but they seem to stem from his own understanding of how politics works and are less polished. Like he knows a little about how to work a crowd, but he’s more raw because he has genuine passion about what he’s trying to do.
    Like I said, I may be out in left field, but it was just a feeling that kept growing during the debate. I watched it a second time and noticed more indicators, but it’s hard to put into words because it’s a lot of little examples and no singularly convincing big examples. Did anyone else feel this way?
    Anyway, I’m for Gary Johnson all the way. None of them really has a chance to win because as long as Citizens United is in place, the elections in this country are bought with cash, but the important thing is to post some double-digit numbers in support of a third-party candidate, and I think Johnson is the one that might be able to do that. The higher we can get those third party numbers, the less ridiculous it becomes to vote for something other than the two main parties in the future.

    Gary Johnson says he will submit a balanced budget the first day in office. We take in $2.1 trillion a year in taxes and spend $3.5 trillion. Gary should provide details of his budget and how he will balance it. If not, he is no different than Twiddle Dee and Twiddle Dum (Gary’s words).

The name/face on the ballot will change, but breaking out of our two-party straitjacket is going to take years of organized work. Let’s support those doing that work.

    If I had one wish regarding this debate, that wish would be that all interested voters in the US got to see this. It would be so enlightening to the persons who only watch our corporate owned media and buy into the 2 party candidates they push. People who are too lazy or don’t know any better to do proper research will never know about these candidates and where they stand. They don’t know about the issues of NDAA, the military-industrial complex, and erosion of our civil liberties. I just want to thank Free and Equal for doing their part in opening the eyes of the American citizens.

All of them had great points and Virgil, although not my preference, he is still standing for those who believe in him and I respect him for just being there and sharing with us.       Time limits! When you have less candidates each one has more time to talk. Why there is time limits? I don’t know. Maybe because it’s on C-SPAN. I think they should do it like The Daily Show and have an overtime that is not viewed on network TV and is viewed by Internet watchers.

      It is sort of hypocritical, but in a way, it is the right thing to do. Think of it as a sporting contest. Last night was the semi-finals and next week will be the finals. It’s not as if you cant still vote for whoever is not included in the second debate. But having only two people will allow for a more concentrated discussion. It will most likely wind up being Gary Johnson vs Jill Stein or Rocky Anderson since The green and justice party’s platforms are basically mirrors of each other and the libertarian party is the only real stark contrast (at least economically).

      Statistically speaking, Gary Johnson has the best chance to actually win the general election given his much larger following and he is very much alike the green/justice parties when it comes to social issues. Given that, I would encourage everyone to rally behind Gary and help him get more than 5% of the vote in the general election which would would be a huge blow to the two party system as a whole. Im sure everyone here would agree that he is a much better candidate than Obama/Romney. I realize that for some of you this would be a form of “lesser of two evils,” but if you really think about it, that is the nature of compromise. Once we put a substantial hole in the wall that is the two party duopoly, then there will be more room for debate on the differences between the libertarian and green/justice parties on a much grander stage. United we will stand, but divided we will fall.

    SO real, soooo true. Things are bloated to the point of bust.
    When Ron Paul was asked if he’d endorse a 3rd party candidate,his reply was, “I’d like to see a 2nd party candidate” The Libertarians have fought the good fight for decades and it’s time they assumed their position of protectors of liberty and freedom at the higher and highest levels.
    They’ve been around looong before the other 3rd parties, took their lumps, paid their dues ,learned from experience and this shows by their previous and current abilities to have the highest ballot access for voters outside of the Republicrats and Demlicans.
    My understanding is that one must sign a pledge to adhere to the party principles, which means that contractually, all of their candidates are bound to it at the risk of at least total hypocracy or perhaps even legal reprimand. You’re not voting so much for the person as you are the party, though individual integrity is a major factor.
    Drop the division, The Libertarian Party is the umbrella for which all non-alligned,independant,and 3rd party people,as well as a hefty percentage of the 2 “major party” foot soldiers can get out of the miserable weather raining down from the 2 trouble makers.

    STARTING NOW, and continuing In 2016, the Third Party needs to focus on the NINE or less swing states, get someone born and raised in one of these states to run as third party independent focus on that state and get just over one third of the presidential vote in that one state, TALK ABOUT A MEDIA FIRESTORM. The Republicans and Democrates and Media have PROVEN you can IGNORE 40 of the United States and get re-elected. It will take only one of these swing states voting 35% third party to GET MEDIA ATTENTION which would spark a national debate. Another suggestion: Green Party people, you need to use the word “POLLUTION” not global warming and climate change to get your message across,, even a Republican can understand the concept of Water and Air Pollution.

    All the candidates deserve praise for fighting in what they believe in.
    Gary Johnson did the best. He was clear about his positions and his visions. At times he went to his talking points, but overall he won.

    I think Rocky was slightly better then Jill. Rocky came across better with his message. Jill seemed nervous and I felt she struggled at times speaking, but her Green New Deal showed she has a vision of how to jump start our economy, education, and make us energy independent. But how do I either of these candidates do all this and balance the budget? Maybe they will be specific in the next debate?

    Virgil has to be respected because he stood by his positions and did not pander to the crowd. He made some good points especially in regards to our budget problems, but the majority of the time he didn’t use all his allotted time failing to take advantage of the opportunity to introduce himself and all his positions.

    Really dissappointed that there wasn’t any real talk about the Federal Reserve.

    I am so pleased that third-party candidates had a chance to speak. I am exhausted with the Republican and Democrat dialogue singing the same song. The candidates are well-read and qualified to go forward to alter the landscape of a stagnate landscape full of corpses. The system is unsustainable domestically, and our foreign policy needs a tune-up. The candidates offered insight pertaining to national debt, student debt, economy, fair-living wage, taxes, in-equality, corporatism, militarism, national security, marriage, patriot act, and deviance of the Constitution. The debate was well done especially when Dr. Stein clearly outlined that corporations have the power to organize money. However; the people have power to organize and change by a vote.

And the presidency is your fatal flaw, if one of your canidates won the presidency, how are they supposed to affect change with the legislative branch being both Dem/Rep?     I saw all the Expanding The Debates done by Democracy Now and the debate between Jill and Gary on the Independent Voter Network and debates conducted much earlier by Progressive Radio Network and Gary Null and those were good, but this really dealt specifically with issues that really haven’t had much coverage. I would really like to hear Obama & Romney address issues that only the third party candidates have addressed, but I know that will never happen. As a result I would prefer any of these four candidates to either of those two. The only choices I see is whether you are going to give into the fear concerning one of those two corporate candidates and vote for the other or if not which of these four you prefer. Personally I think that voting for the lesser of two evils means you are still voting for evil and concerning the future that may be the real waste of a vote and of course not voting at all is in essence a vote for those guys too and is definitely a waste of a vote. I believe every vote for a third party candidate whether it is for one of these four or someone else is a real vote for the future and a protest vote against the corporate candidates. Such votes will help make third party candidates viable candidates, which is really inevitable as far as I can see. It is a matter of time before so many become disillusioned with the mainstream candidates and mainstream media that change will take place. The masses will not remain asleep forever! They will not continue looking for the status quo to show them the way when it continually fails them…

    Johnson and Stein would be a good debate. The Green Party’s idea to cut corporate welfare and bail out school debt is a wonderful idea. I think the Greens could bring jobs as well. You know, the infrastructure rebuilding jobs and green jobs that Obama has a desire to create. The Dems talk a lot.

    I like some of the ideals associated with Libertarianism, I just fear what the corporations could do if there were no regulations, no minimum wage, etc. What will happen to all the people on government assistance? Those in public housing? I ask the same if Romney wins.

    I liked the idea of ending immigration until unemployment is below 5% here.

    I also liked the idea of term limits for Congress.

I think that REGARDLESS of your voting preference and the person you actually vote for, it is very important to know what ALL of your options for….even if you end up voting for one of the main party candidates, it is at least the person you feel is BEST SUITED for the position rather than a vote for them because you have NO other choice.

    Best debate I have seen in years! The real topics were discussed last night that really affect our nation. I could say that I liked a lot of what all four candidates had to say. As for me it was Gary Johnson and Virgil Goode.

      Probably in order to not have the small 3rd party debate turned into a complete circus show and turn off any potential independent voters they kept it to candidates that are on the ballot in at least a minimum number of states. That being said, the main reason I’m voting for Johnson is out of the four debaters last night, he is the only one on enough ballots in states with the right amount of electoral votes to mathematically win (I’m not counting write in states as that is a huge long shot to win a state where enough people have to know your name before entering the booth).

      Nothing against Virgil, Jill, or Rocky but even if they win all the states they are on the ballot they couldn’t win. I won’t call it a wasted vote as that is an annoying mantra from followers of the R’s and D’s but I’m placing my vote on the only third party candidate that actually could win.

    The Green Party for me has been a thorn in an otherwise principled effort… This makes me sad… I used to be a Green (a year or so), then became independent, because it was easeir for voting, then, in our rigged system as it is. I considered going back, but kept putting it off.. During THIS Election…

    I became disappointed in the Greens when one of their people wrote a scathing, untrue report about Rocky Anderson, replete with lies I myself could identify, and so I searched out the situation more: reportedly the person wouldn’t “talk to Rocky Anderson” to straighten it out;

    Then…a site was put up online stating that Rocky Anderson was “unethical” because he participated in the third-party effort, “Americans Elect” which purportedly was “corporate-funded”. However, one of the directors of Americans Elect clearly stated to me, in person, that their funding came from individuals and some were, admittedly “wealthy”, but they were strcitly individual donations. I see nothing “unethical” about Rocky gaining visibility through a fair effort made by Americans Elect.

    I gradually became more interested in Rocky Anderson…and sought out info about the Justice Party.

    THEN I saw stated several times on the Green website that they/their Stein Campaign was the “ONLY” party that “does not take corporate funding”. This is totally untrue. The Justice Party, co-founded by Rocky Anderson, does not take corporate funding; nor do other third parties. I am not sure re the Libertarian Party.

    THEN I read in a circulated Stein-support letter…and on the Green website, their saying that they were the “ONLY” party that stood for Peace. This is preposterously untrue.

    THEN, to top it all off: as I became more politically active, I was instrumental in organizing yet another Third Party debate/FORUM that was to be aired October 17th by LinkTV/ C-span and possibly other media including mainstream (if they dared!) – to be held at a well-known University in California… Everyone was excited about this… and it took me long enough to get the right sponsor for same. All we needed were confirmations from the candidates. A date was finally agreed to… Candidates and/or their Managers were, at the onset, very interested, Rocky Anderson and another – very enthusiastic. However, it all went down starting with Dr. Jill Stein:

    Her Campaign would NOT (emphasized) participate if candidate Roseanne Barr was present. Roseanne Barr is a sharp witty lady appreciated by California–and she is very knowledgeable and insightful about politics. The party who nominated her, the Peace and Freedom Party, is also “very California”–it is mainly a (liberal) California party, an important, historic one, formed during the VietNam War to counter that horrendous war, and to stand strong for Civil Rights at the time and beyond. The party has morphed into being socialistic, but not government-ownership-of-everything type of socialism. It is a viable and very interesting party which has survived all this time. Though I wasn’t sure myself, the University wanted Roseanne Barr and the Peace & Freedom Party represented! Roseanne Barr was invited. (and we don’t “UNinvite”!)

    Jill Stein would not cooperate…

    Then, without naming names, another candidate would not participate if Jill Stein wasn’t there; and Rocky would participate if Jill Stein and/or Gary Johnson, Obama, or Romney were there (the “big two” were invited as well). At the last minute Gary Johnson could not participate, but it could have also been because Stein wouldn’t come….but they/ Johnson DID have a tight schedule & they warned us they might have to send their VP, granted. Anyway, it became a mess and a big headache for everyone.

    If Stein had coooperated, this huge media effort–presidential Forum–would have been realized and the American People could have become even more informed!

    We feel–and it can pretty well be deducted–that if Jill Stein had cooperated, this huge event with massive public audience (we had a big auditorium and even a university ampitheatre on hold for them) would have been made available to the American People. We feel that Jill Stein’s demand was prejudicial and a block to sharing all candidates with the American Public. And it was disrespectful of our efforts.

    The Greens took A LOT of our time and were the most difficult party to work with… The other parties were a breeze compared… (except one didn’t return calls during an important time but finally did–oh well, that happens). As for Dr. Jill Stein:

    Others got involved and pleaded with Dr. Stein in person, even, to participate; but she would not budge!! A professor friend who organized something for her said Stein also was “difficult” in this regard, so a planned debate was whittled down to a 20-min. speech by Jill Stein alone at a community college.

    Yes, and there was Illinois, a Green trying to get Rocky Anderson off the ballot… and succeeded. The Greens claimed “ignorance” about that…who knows?

    Unfortunately I simply don’t trust them or Dr. Jill Stein any longer, even though her platform looks very good. I do like their spirit in getting arrested and all that…but was that only a ploy to get media attention? Even if it was, I think it was great…

    I believe Rocky Anderson has the experience to implement very similar ideas as the Greens’ ideas–and he has already made such ideas come to life, i.e., happen for real! Check out what he’s done – as well as what he’ll do: http://www.voteROCKY.org http://www.JusticePartyUSA.org

    I watched the 3 “other” presidential debates and I wasn’t surprised that my prediction came true: each candidate (puppet) would “win” one apiece and the thrid debate would be a “tie”.
    It’s called “performance” for good reason!
    Last night we heard a real and meaningful debate. The “other” two candidates declined this debate because they arrogantly believe that only they matter.

    However rewarding the 3rd Party Debate was, it was all for naught. Just as the debates between the black (or semi-black) and white doppelgängers were also all for naught. This is because THE FIX IS IN!

    As Virgil Goode might say, “You won’t like to hear this,” but Obama, “The Anointed One,” has been chosen to win another term in office, just as he was chosen to win his first term. But despite the FIX, Obama will use his “Plan B” to ensure his re-election. Here is how he will proceed:

    A week before the election Obama will send his marching orders to his “special” supporters. These “special” supporters include members of the old ACORN and ACORN-like “community organizations”; the armed factions of the SEIU, UAW, Teamsters and other labor unions; the New Black Panther Party; the Nation of Islam; Obama’s hitherto unknown private army; the leadership of OWS and its legions of leftist malcontent losers and parasites. (This is just a partial list.)

    Under Obama’s tutelage, these special supporters stage protests and demonstrations throughout the land, which all “somehow” lead to riots, race and otherwise. Obama then declares Martial Law throughout the land, and postpones the elections. After a “suitable period,” the riots die down, though sporadic “pockets of resistance” still remain. And after thousands are killed, uncounted are arrested and hundreds of billions of dollars incurred in damages, Obama rescinds Martial Law and reschedules the elections.

    He then campaigns aggressively under his new campaign slogan, “Vote For Me, OR ELSE!”

    Landslide victory here he comes.

    You can’t make these things up.

    All four should get another round of questions. Using a finalist type system provides the opportunity to marginalize some candidates while giving others with more legitimacy, all the while in a forum that is presented as free and equal. Even if it is done via voting, the forum may nonetheless be more familiar with a particular group, such as the libertarians (just for an example). There is nothing wrong with that in and of itself, but the best approach is nonetheless to bring all four back. It is better it remains a debate rather than resembling a primary.

    I only knew about this today, Wednesday, because it was mentioned on the PBS Newshour program. Am wondering if Free and Equal attempted to get it referenced on the other major networks but were thwarted. I was able to watch it tonight via the PBS link on their website, and found it extremely interesting to hear these views. Having virtually nothing to lose by speaking freely, these candidates expressed ideas and policies that should, but never will, be heard from the D/R candidates.

    Fuck the author of the survey (“this survey being currently closed”, I just follow the instructions: “contact the author of the survey for further assistance”). Done.
    Is the author of the survey a Mit nazi, or an Obama fascist ? Did anyone utter the discredited and disenfranchised word “socialist” as to any of these two individuals ? Who gives a f$$uck anyway (not me and the few whom I know, otherwise I’m sure there are who give some f$$uck about this ungodly classification).
    It’s all just an incredible and subtle obamination bordering on the obhorrent and revulsive (I already own the rights on the first two ob-related words, so don’t bother…).
    Mit’s names do not bode well with the above type of humor, but The man inspires the same feelings and sensations to me (I wouldn’t be unfair to Mit, to be clear, because I’m an independent demo-publican, or a “fuck-the-poor” adept, as we call ourselves).
    I’ll vote for Mit anyway and advise all of you to do likewise for two excellent reasons:
    1) I don’t sense a difference in whether it’s Obama, or Mit, sending the army to arrest me/you without charges and counsel, holding me/you indefinitely, without trial, without a requirement to notify anyone, completely incommunicado, me/you being subjected to torture (“enhanced interrogation techniques” for the sensitive ones), based on the president’s determination that I/you might have rubbed shoulders in the subway with someone the same president determined may have had a shoulder rubbing with someone the same president determined might have had an unholy thought about the greatest, deepest, most humane presidential prerogative, namely to singularly and arbitrarily kill any one not deeply appreciating the said prerogative. So, why not vote for Mit, since he doesn’t differ from barak on that ?
    2) Mit, being a GW-2 (I don’t mean a # 2, please, the lesser bush was always a # 1 !) for all practical (and conceivable) purposes, will definitely do his handlers’ best to speed up the advent of the armageddon, there by reducing to the smallest thinkable extent our (theirs too ?) suffering, pain etc. inherent to grandeur of a such godly enterprise, like say, gangrene, then swift amputation would be in order.
    In any case, general human suffering would obviously be minimal, hence justified !
    With Obama, it would be like giving the “most potent” chemotherapy to a dying cancer patient, while being clearly aware of the patient’s dismal prognosis and the horrible side effects of the said therapy. Translation: big $ gains for the “big pharma” and extended torture for the cancer patient. Do we really want our destiny being painfully and artificially postponed ? I believe not. That’s why I vote for Mit, the fast suffering-ender !

    On a different note, People, jon stewart is a hopeless funny establishment promoter.
    Stephen Colbert’s intellect is at least 3Xstewart’s, his humor is without equal and his relevance is almost complete: unfortunately, despite his deeper than anyone’s, his interpretations of past/current/future events do NOT move him from the social category he loves to ridicule, although he comes deceptively close.
    What ever, I never thought I were able of such an uninterested and lengthy dissertation.
    Don’t hesitate to counter, contradict and refute any of my assertions, I will answer each of them without fault.

    I used capitalization on a deserved/undeserved basis, not necessarily on a grammatical one.

    This last debate on Tues., Oct. 30th should be televised nationally w lots of press releases ahead of time. It should be aired on PBS. The American people have individually and privately financed PBS for decades, more than two generations. PBS should be supporting the people who have supported them, and do the right thing. The right, honorable, and just thing is for PBS to air this historic debate on national television.

    IMHO, the point of a “third party” vote is to relay to the majors and to the nation that we need not live in the machinations of a R-D-R-D-R…cycle. That YOU the individual American citizen are the single most important person in politics today. I am Constitution Party and as such, I support my party’s candidate, Virgil Goode. Having stated that, i want to encourage like minded people to not allow yourselves to be drawn into our own cycle like the dems and repubs have going on now. It should not be about party, but about principle. About people. About liberty. Thank you all for thinking critically about our wonderful republic.     I didn’t get to vote but would have voted for Gary Johnson. Also to the organizers, a third party debate was covered by C-Span for the last election that Ron Paul arranged. I don’t know what was so “historic” about this one.

    The below comment I made re Dr. Jill Stein and the Green Party – i.e., re our experience with that Campaign in re the LinkTV/other Media and local California university effort… could be a matter of perspective. Dr. Stein may feel, for personal reasons and lack-of-Roseanne’s-ballot-access reasons…that Roseanne Barr ‘s presence could “water down” the efforts of the Third Party Forum we were to have. She may be delighted that this event was canceled.

    However, many were very disappointed, including several of the candidates (especially Rocky Anderson who personally expressed the same in a note to us), the University, LinkTV Media, myself and those involved in the organzing…and all those who already knew about the eventual event! Many felt upset that Jill Stein would not participate “if Roseanne Barr is there.”

    Again said: it needs to be known that all candidates, except for Jill Stein, did not at all mind Roseanne Barr participating in this debate/Forum to have been held in California. FreeAndEqual, when approached for Roseanne Barr’s / Peace and Freedom Party’s participation in their Debate, stated in a conversation that “…the candidates will cancel if Roseanne Barr is there.” Was that opinion or fact? Rocky Anderson stated in relation to that comment forwarded to him that it was wrong information and that he would not have canceled… And in conversations, the three other candidates stated that it would not have bothered them generally, though they didn’t cite this particular event, as it wasn’t firmed up quite at that time.

    Beyond the Roseanne Barr situation appearing unfair, I believe Socialist parties need to be represented anyway: the Peace and Freedom Party is one of them and Roseanne Barr is their nominee. Another is the SocialistUSA Party whose nominee, Stewart Alexander, made a very good appearance, e.g., with clarity of issues and manner of presentation, on John Stossel’s Show a few weeks ago. Stossel was surprised to learn that Socialism isn’t necessarily a “government owns everything” kind of “ism”. Alexander spoke of what SocialistsUSA value, including of what respected economist, Prof. Richard Wolff, speaks: worker-owned and worker-run cooperatives / businesses which, in examples given by Wolff, have survived the ups and downs of capitalism–including this present recession. Stossel ignorantly said something like, “What?!…you mean the government doesn’t own the business?”

    IDEAS and perspectives need to be given accurate and vast voice to the American People. “Isms” aren’t the bottom line, anyway…Ideas-which-work-effectively are – that’s the bottom line, n’est ce pas?!!

    Thank you for this debate. Although I do not agree with him entirely on every issue, I am voting for Gary Johnson his year. Not having read all his positions, this debate actually helped me to clarify some areas of agreement and difference I have with Johnson. And, of course, it gets the candidates out there for people who scarcely even know any of them exist. The media blackout of all of them is nearly total.

    I thought the first debate was just great… I can care less that the debate is not “polished” or very sexy… I’m more interested in information not how the presentation looks and how smooth it is runned.

    There is one real firm hard fact. They were all better than obama or Romney, but the best with no compromising excuses, or mishaps, was Virgil Goode. He has the Constitution together with all his decisions. And I’m not saying there won’t be hitches, but if there are, they will be taken care of in the INTERESTS OF EVERY American Citizen.         You seem to be playing a guessing game for rebellion rather than fact. I always use the passed on and voted or discussed facts. Not the obama guessing game, and lies. He does not want to protect YOU, he wants to cash out on Americans money for his sharia muslim transistions after he is out of, or voted out by intelligent American Citizens. Excuse me for hurting your feelings so bad.     I want to put a vote in for Gary Johnson for myself and for Virgil Goode for my cousin who was his top pick. He liked the promise to balance budget among other things. The other two sounded like they had plans to spend outlandishly, and didn’t express plans to balance.

    The navigation of this web site is confusing and frustrating. The front page says vote now but the link says voting is closed. They announce the second debate but don’t announce who is in it. They say the first debate can be watched online but don’t give links to all the live feeds that carry it. Stop teasing and just come out with it.

    We desperately need better education, however the solution is not to provide college tuition for free. K-12 is already free. We need to fire all the horrible teachers and make a high school diploma mean something. Students should not be waiting until high school (or worse, college) to take basic algebra.

    Why have a vote on this? There are only two candidates on the ballot in enough states to have a mathematical chance at winning: Gary Johnson and Jill Stein.

    My vote is for Gary Johnson & Virgil Goode. Of the registered voters in this country, only 36% are Dumocrat or Retardican. That means 64% are independent of some nature – we are the majority in this country and if we could just unite 2 of these independents, WE COULD FIX THIS!

    Garry Johnson is the best fit. At least he was a governor, and business leader. All the candidates of the third parties are anti-wars, which is the normal trend of good people. Attacking people in sovereign countriesc thousands of miles away is a criminal act that our media made us accept as if it was a good thing!

    The environmental issues are basically a waste of time. Our environment condition is not killing or harming any one. Our unemployment, our lack of free health care, our wars and wasted trillions, and young lives are all killing and ensuring more people than pollution or global warming.

    Enjoyed the debate. Would like for the candidates to answer the question: “Would they tried to overturn Roe versus Wade and stop the funding for Planned Parenthood? Mitt Romney has said he will stop the funding. Planned Parenthood clinics are closing all over this country as I write this question.

    I realize the sad truth is that Obama or Romney will be winning this election but I don’t care. I’m still going to vote my conscience (Gary Johnson) and be able to look myself in the mirror.     I would like to see Dr. Jill Stein and Rocky Anderson at the last debate
    since I believe we would finally have a 180 degree change in USA Policy and
    motives. Otherwise, you might as well vote for a DemiRepublicrat and continue on
    the same course of a war on freedom (drugs, gender, sexual orientation, etc) and
    our wars to take over all the worlds resources.

    Wish we could get the last debate aired on CNN. We need to let all the voters out there who are not going to vote to protest that they can vote now. I watched a debate between Jill Stein and Gary Johnson on CNN. That is how I found out I had other choices. I refused to watch the other debates.
