21 Oct Arn Menconi
Born in Chicago, Illinois, Arn Menconi used to be a Democrat. In January this year, however, he left to become a member of the Green Party. Three months later, he was announced as the party’s progressive candidate to the U.S. Senate.
Known as a progressive leader in sustainability and social justice, Menconi has served on numerous community and state-wide non-profits. He is also the founder of a national youth development 501(c)3 non-profit called SOS Outreach (formerly known as Snowboard Outreach Society), the county’s largest winter sports-based youth developmental agency that aims to reach out to underserved and underprivileged youth who would not otherwise have an opportunity to visit the mountains.
With programs focusing on character development, social skill practice, values-based leadership training, social justice advocacy, and peer mentoring, the non-profit (founded in 1993 in Vail Colorado) today supports over 3000 kids at 30 ski resorts across the US.
Besides this, Menconi has worked on community development initiatives including long-term economic planning, affordable housing and early childhood development and has served two terms on the county commission of Eagle County, Colorado from 2000-2008.
Through his audio book “Lied to Death,” a 13-part series in which he spoke to Pentagon Papers whistleblower Daniel Ellsberg (a man Henry Kissinger called, “the Most Dangerous Man in America”) in May last year, Menconi hopes to promote the cause of peace and a sane future in a nuclear world. Too much is at stake, he says.
It’s “the 99 percent” that he seeks to represent, something his incumbent Michael Bennet is clearly out of touch with. And according to MintPress News who he interviewed with earlier in May, this “rebel candidate” may be “exactly what’s needed to ‘make America great again.’
On modern-day America: “We’re run by a global corporate mafia,” Menconi says of modern day America. “Everyone who I’m talking to believes that we’re run by an oligarchy.”
On the Transpacific Partnership: “The TPP, if enacted, would be a coup for corporate oligarchy and a blow to democracy and the public interest. It was negotiated in secret with the help of 600 ‘trade advisors’ from powerful multinational corporations. It would establish a mechanism to override democratically enacted laws by handing legislative and judicial power to a small panel of corporate lawyers. Through the Investor-State Dispute Settlement provisions, the TPP would hijack the U.S. legal system for the benefit of these same multinational corporations.”
On Colorado care: “I’m very much in favor of Amendment 69. We can’t wait for Congress to give people what they want.”
On the November 2016 ballot: This is an election that I haven’t seen since I was a kid in 1968. This is a revolution that’s going on. We are watching the devolution of the two-party system before our eyes. And power will not give up without a fight.”
In letters published in several Colorado newspapers introducing himself to voters and outlining his campaign agenda, he said, “I will fight to end the military industrial dominance of our government with its greed and killings, end our dependence on fossil fuels by 2050, providing single-payer health care for all as a right not as a privilege, and break up the Big Banks and power of Wall Street that has been stealing resources from our children and grandchildren. … Our world is not for sale. Our country will not be the biggest terrorist. Our judicial system will not lock up the whistleblower and communities of color while politicians commit war crimes and CEO’s fraud. They will no longer walk free while we become slaves.”
It’s thanks to the Free and Equal platform we can hear from alternative candidates like Arn Menconi who are against government corruption to begin with.
It’s the supporters and members of our platform that ensure voices like his herd. Stay tuned to follow our 3rd Annual UWS Fest to hear Arn’s message for his run to become a US Senator.
