Government is not the problem in and of itself. It is the $ in government that is the problem. In a true democracy of, by, and for We the People, we all are the government.

    • Freedom1Man

We are not a Democracy in the first place.

    • TheSystemIsBroken

imo, both government and corporations are the problem. Essentially, I see them working together and holding hands (more fascist in my eyes than socialist). When you have Monsanto and Goldman & Sachs lobbyists in government administrations, I no longer think one can simply blame ‘government’ OR ‘corporations’.

      • http://www.facebook.com/debbie.horn.750 Debbie Horn

Nicely said! Look at my face!

    • http://www.facebook.com/debbie.horn.750 Debbie Horn

Yeah, but we are not running it. And that is the whole point

The United States of America is not a democracy as so many like to claim. The United States is a Constitutional republic with democratic tendencies. If this country was a true democracy then individual rights would be abolished within a short amount of time, and our Constitution would become meaningless. The national election for president is not a democratic election; one candidate can win the popular vote, and another can win the Electoral college vote and win the nomination against the will of the people. Could you imagine what it would be like if this was the case for all deciding factors in government, and what life would be like today without our individual liberties protected by a Bill of Rights? A democracy is two wolves and a lamb deciding what’s for dinner; liberty is a well-armed lamb contesting the vote! In a democracy 51% can have control over the other 49%, and that is something I do NOT agree with. Without individual rights enshrined and protected by the Federal and state constitutions this country would not have become the greatest nation in the World, and I am overly thankful that our nation is a Constitutional republic, and that every state is guarunteed a republican form of government.

$ (which is created from nothing) IS UNLIMITED. Labor and resources are not. As long as there are idle labor and resources, societal necessities such as universal health care, (higher) education, and (green energy) infrastructure that provide for the general Welfare are entirely MORAL decisions. BTW, this is not inflationary if labor and resources are idle (slack)and when bank credit $ is restricted to productive investment into the real economy (supply increases with demand).

    • http://www.facebook.com/debbie.horn.750 Debbie Horn

Yeah, really! Who gets to choose?

  • Freedom1Man

First off we are not a Democracy!!! Green party just lost in my book with the first question.

    • http://www.facebook.com/lithae Serenity Lithae

I think for the most part it’s obvious we’re not a Democracy literally, but most people call us a Democracy anyway, it’s more a matter of ideals than the actual literal system. I think at this point we are a step between Republic and a real Democracy. A total and complete Democracy is not a good idea, but neither is a complete Republic. The people should have a say with certain things, like getting riled up about human rights violations and demanding something be done, in that sort of situation, the people have a sort of Democratic power to overthrow the Republic aspects of those put into positions of power. She is a smart person, I’m sure she did not mean it literally. She is a medical doctor, with a large belie in science and fact, I doubt she would try to run for President without knowing what kind of country we live in. The two main-party candidates also called it a Democracy at one point, we don’t really use the word the way it was originally intended.

Is there a transcript of this? I watched it but would like to go back through it again. I prefer a transcript so I can look for key points more easily.

    • http://www.facebook.com/lithae Serenity Lithae

I also have been scouring the internet for a transcript but there isn’t one. Not even on the official transcript websites. Another conspiracy? lol they have all of the Romney/Obama ones, but not this one for some reason. If anyone has a link, that’d be great. I have been trying to quote Jill Stein’s awesome drug speech for like an hour now since I’m bad at typing while listening and getting the exact quote and my video is a bit sketchy so it’s annoying to go back and forth over and over. A transcript would be awesome for my nerves right now, lol.

Top Two Independent Primaries makes NO mathematical sense. If one party runs four candidates and another runs two, the minor party can end up with both finalists. Personally, I think Term Limits need to be a barbell approach (or dumbbell if you’re a cynic) where would the world be if Churchill was term limited? Sometimes you really need an elder statesman. A significant hiatus between terms seems to be a reasonable compromise.

A balanced budget before full employment is achieved seems to be a risky policy to me.

Ending Corporate Personhood is a soundbite. The infringement on free speech, and rights to assemble is frightening. A debate like this could even become illegal since it is sponsored by a corporation. The issues are much more complex and require a left, right, center compromise. It would be wonderful to have these four cobble out such a proposal.

  • http://twitter.com/jmdenn the GREATER Platform

    Congrats, well done!

End the Fed? Please take a look at Modern Money Theory (MMT). http://neweconomicperspectives.org/p/modern-monetary-theory-primer.html I do NOT support that as as independent centrist reformer. I doubt that even polls a simple majority. Spain and Italy would likely not be having the troubles they are in if they had a fiat currency. And inflation is not necessarily bad if wages keep pace.

    • http://www.facebook.com/debbie.horn.750 Debbie Horn

How about NO currency? That is the root of the power, take away the money, what’s left?

  • http://twitter.com/jmdenn the GREATER Platform

We need an Independent Election Commission outside of the control off all three branches of government and corporations—populated by a citizen jury—by reflective representation, or intentional diversity sat for a decade straddling the census (to be accountable).

  • http://twitter.com/jmdenn the GREATER Platform

I WAS but now am NOT in favor of the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact unless the following defect is addressed. Out of a four candidate field, the top vote getter reaches 26% of the vote, while 74% disapprove of this candidate. And now that person is leading the free world. Sorry, not going there. There must be a better system than “first past the post” and until that time the Electoral College, omg I can’t believe I’m going to type this, needs to stay in place.

All that needs to be said is: Before you vote, read Ron Paul’s latest book, _Liberty Defined_

  • http://www.facebook.com/debbie.horn.750 Debbie Horn

Everyone needs to share this with your friends!!!! Now is the time to make a change!

  • Swithiod

In Sweden (Europe) the medias are wery intrested in the american presidetial election! But just about Romney and Obama, Republicans or Democrats, and most europeans hopes that Obama will win. Europeeans specially swedes and other scandinavians perhaps think that it will be a more peaceful and better world if Obama wins instead of Romney!
Last election they talked about some rich third candidate which name i cant remeber. But as the Libertarian candidate said. The two big parties, and specially the republicans during George W Bush got more enimies than they got friend. Sience the Vietnam war, you got lots of enimies! -Mostely left wing people and socialists, but even lots of center and right wing people in Europe and other devoloped and civilisted places are critical about the wild western politics as USA has managed the last 40 years!

  • Swithiod

Interesting to find that the americans has more coises than The Donkeys or The Elephatnts.
If some of this parties can get people who doesn´t use too vote too do so, you can staird but not shaken the election! Everything can be throend around and changed!

EVERYONE should see this debate. I wonder if most people know there are six candidates running for President (not just two). Why don’t the major media “news” channels show this? I was lucky to find it on C-SPAN and was riveted.

YouTube/Google: Making Money with YouYoube and watch a few of the videos. I think YouTube is a great way to help fund a potential local or presidential candidate and really connect with the people in the US. Maybe its already being done. No sense in picking one person, there should be a list of sectors of which people are running to oversee i.e. Medical, Energy, Human Rights, Transportation. Although that would require more attention to politics. I had a lot more interest watching this than the fake debate!

  • atiboy15

Thank god for these real Presidential debates

Jill, I am sorry but Corporations are mostly about real, breathing People who make up S-corps, C-corps, LLC’s. I am about to start a one person LLC and it will be listed as a corporation per Dunn & Bradstreet. I have to incorporate to protect myself legally from the shark lawyers out there who would pounce on my Corporation for an infraction

Stay small til you’re big enough to pounce yourself !

We need to get the second debate to air on mainstream tv!!! If we all make a stand and bombard the news stations, we could make a huge difference in this country this election!! Does anyone have any leads on this already?

I support Gary Johnson and believe he has the leadership qualities this country need. We have to balance the budget and he has done it as a Governor. However, all four of these candidate have earned my respect. Any of them would led the country in a better direction than Obama or Romney. Virgil Goode has particularly earned my respect even though I don’t really agree with him. He knew some of his positions wouldn’t be popular yet he stood by it. Neither Obama nor Romney have even 1% of the integrity of this man.

We can’t win this election but lets go out there and give these candidates the support they deserve. If we steal a decent percentage of the votes, we will open more people’s eyes to these other parties and candidates and perhaps change the future of politics. Of course, I’m preaching to the choir here.

i know this wont affect the complacent public or embedded crony capitalism and partisan rhetoric thats killing us…..but its such a relief to see a sincere discussion by political leaders that have either intellectual basis, concern for our future, or even old right conservatism sounds much more tasteful than neocon interventionism.

  • bobby nj

when i say neocon i’m referring to W. and Obama
